Synchronicity is a term coined by Psychoanalyst Carl Jung to describe what he called the “a causal connecting principle” that links mind and matter.  Jung taught that this underlying connectedness manifests itself through meaningful coincidences that cannot be explained by cause and effect. They occur, he theorized, when a strong need arises in the psyche of an individual. He described 3 types of synchronicity:

  • the coincidence of a thought or feeling with an outside event
  • a dream, vision or premonition of something that then happens in the future (precognition)
  • a dream or vision that coincides with an event occurring at a distance (clairvoyance)

In our December IONS meeting, we will discuss theory of synchronicity and the many ways it manifests in – and affects – our lives.  We will also discuss ways of recognizing and enhancing this as a guidance tool.  Please join us and bring your own accounts of synchronicity to share!

What is IONS? The Institute of Noetic Sciences™founded in 1973 by Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research, education, and membership organization whose mission is supporting individual and collective transformation through consciousness research, educational outreach, and engaging a global learning community in the realization of our human potential. “Noetic” comes from the Greek word nous, which means “intuitive mind” or “inner knowing.” IONS™ conducts, sponsors, and collaborates on leading-edge research into the potentials and powers of consciousness, exploring phenomena that do not necessarily fit conventional scientific models while maintaining a commitment to scientific rigor.

The Caritas Center sponsors one of a global network of self-organizing community groups that study and discuss the work of IONS.
