A sanctuary is more than a place—it is a vow that within its embrace, the soul is safe to reveal itself, remember itself, and be reborn.

Description:  Join us for a profound conversation with Edward Tick, PhD, as we explore the themes of his newest work, Passage to Poros: In the Sanctuary of the Sea God. For more than four decades, Tick has led pilgrims, seekers, and trauma survivors through the mythic landscapes of Greece, revealing how ancient wisdom traditions can guide us through the crises of the modern world. In this event, Tick illuminates the deeper meaning of asylia—sacred sanctuary—and why the restoration of inner and communal refuge has never been more urgent.

Drawing on the ancient Greek tradition of asylia—a vow of inviolable sanctuary—Tick reveals how the core practices of refuge, dream healing, ritual engagement with nature, and mythic consciousness can be reawakened in our modern lives. While the island of Poros serves as a vivid model for these traditions—an environment where ancient patterns are still palpable—Tick’s work shows that the essence of these practices is universal. Through intentional dreamwork, symbolic awareness, ritualized presence, and the cultivation of inner sanctuary, he demonstrates how individuals anywhere can restore a felt relationship with the sacred. In this way, Poros becomes not only a place but a metaphor for the sanctuary the soul longs to remember and recreate within itself and its communities.

This event invites you into a living dialogue with the ancient healing arts of Greece and their relevance for our time. Whether you are drawn to the power of myth, the depth of dreamwork, the wisdom of nature, or the search for meaningful refuge in a troubled world, you will find in Tick’s work a pathway toward renewal. Together, we will explore how restoring sacred sanctuary—within and without—can help us reclaim purpose, navigate trauma, and rekindle our connection to the numinous.

Dr. Ed Tick has been a “thought leader” in restoring ancient and worldwide spiritual teachings and practices to achieve personal and collective transformation and true soul healing

Ed is an archetypal psychotherapist, author, poet, educator, international journey leader, and peace activist, and well-known for his contributions to healing war trauma. He affirms, with Hippocrates, that “all illnesses begin in the soul.” To help restore transformational healing at the soul level, he has been studying and utilizing the ancient Greek origins of psychotherapy and medicine for half a century and has guided over 20 healing journeys to Greece since 1995. He first presented this work, originating with the god of healing Asklepios and achieved through “dream incubation,” in his now-classic book The Practice of Dream Healing (2001). His new book Passage to Poros: In the Sanctuary of the Sea God is a hybrid of spiritual memoir, pilgrimage narrative, and cultural history centered on the Greek island of Poros and the ancient sanctuary of Poseidon at Kalaureia, which has functioned as a site of pilgrimage, peace, and healing for more than three millennia. He uses the island as a living temple and metaphor through which to explore trauma, myth, dream healing, modern asylum, and our relationship to the Divine.
