We will explore the serious call of the Christ not so much to become believers but to undertake the spiritual practices leading to a freedom from our usual ego driven self and to become his own brothers and sisters and therefore, like him, beloved children of the Living Father. There is a strong implication in the Gospel of Philip that Christ came not to make us Christians, but to make us Christ. This requires a radical transformation of the whole of myself, as Christ said according to Matthew 16:24, “Unless you leave your self behind you cannot be a follower of mine.”

It would be erroneous to conclude from this remark of the Christ that he is inviting us to become Christians and believe in him; or something similar.  All serious transformational spiritual teachings are difficult to follow.  The Buddha could have said, “He who is near me is near the fire.  He who is far from me is far from Nirvana.”
