Introduction to Spiral Dynamics, Part 2

Saturday, November 3rd, 2018
10 AM – 12 PM

Suggested Donation $5

The evolution of consciousness has been illustrated and explained through a process of organizing human history into distinct and structured stages. The model for this analysis, called “Spiral Dynamics,” is a fascinating study of a dialectical process initially described by German philosopher Georg Hegel (1770- 1831). In more recent times, this theory was furthered by developmental psychologist Clare Graves, who revealed that these sequential stages make up a larger dynamic spiral of development. Graves’ colleague Don Beck carried on this work and co-authored an influential book on the subject, called “Spiral Dynamics.”

This work has become an important foundation of integral philosophy. In the first part of this 2-part series, we traced the trajectory of human history through the dialectical stages, or “memes,” depicted in this philosophy. In our second meeting, we will look at the expression of these memes in various societies and mindsets in today’s world. Please join us for this compelling discussion.

What is IONS? The Institute of Noetic Sciences™ founded in 1973 by Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research, education, and membership organization whose mission is supporting individual and collective transformation through consciousness research, educational outreach, and engaging a global learning community in the realization of our human potential. “Noetic” comes from the Greek word nous, which means “intuitive mind” or “inner knowing.” IONS™ conducts, sponsors, and collaborates on leading-edge research into the potentials and powers of consciousness, exploring phenomena that do not necessarily fit conventional scientific models while maintaining a commitment to scientific rigor.

The Caritas Center sponsors one of a global network of self-organizing community groups that study and discuss the work of IONS.
